Made with intent from small parcels from Vavasour’s original vines, Papa Sauvignon Blanc 2022 shows remarkable textural depth with complex barrel-aged notes of spice and smoke with 18% of the wine fermented in French oak. Made to age, its maturity has added nuance and is at its best drinking now.
"A complex nose with loads of fresh lime zest, white peach, complex jalapeno smokeyness developing. Some hints of wild fermentation. The palate is concentrated and layered along with a beautiful freshness. The natural acidity is fresh and mineral, with the classic Awatere salinity on the finish. The fruit lingers on the finish along with the mineralty. Complex and layered, it’s a great food wine and would be well paired with seafood, oysters or to cut through strong cheeses." - recent tasting by Stu Marfell (Feb 2026).
